Netflix improves its parental controls, even more options for parents

Netflix is ​​strengthening its toolset to more effectively control the content children can watch on the platform. This is an important issue for many parents, the Reed Hastings firm and its competitors have understood this well.

In France, the CSA has recommended for years to limit the exposure of the youngest to sensitive content, those which contain violent scenes, themes such as drugs, suicide, sex or a degrading image of women.

Protect profiles with a PIN code

To prevent your child from using an account other than their own, it is now possible to define a PIN code to protect individual profiles. To add a code, here is the procedure.

Click on the "account" tab.

Go to the "Profiles and parental control" section.

Select "Profile lock", fill in your password and create your PIN. You can now make this number mandatory to access the profiles of your choice.

Go to the "Manage profiles" tab.

Click "Add profile".

Select "Child". It's good, you now have a space dedicated to your offspring.

Set age category / block titles

It is also possible to define an age category for a profile. Therefore, only films and TV series deemed suitable for this age limit will now be visible. Here's the procedure to follow :

In the "Account" tab, go to the "Profiles and parental controls" section.

Select "Access restrictions", fill in your password.

Set the desired age category.

You can also block specific programs from your account. The process is the same, you just have to fill in the programs targeted in "Enter the film or TV series".

Control history and turn off autoplay

Finally, know that you can also check the viewing history of a profile from your account settings.

This always happens in the "Profiles and parental controls" part where you have to click on the "History" section.

To limit screen time, disabling autoplay is a useful setting. Just go to "Account", then "Profiles and Parental Controls" and "Playback Settings". Then uncheck "Play the next episode of a series on all devices".
