"It's not just Omar Sy!": Gérard Jugnot is delighted with the worldwide success of "Pourris gâtés" on Netflix

Gérard Jugnot reacts on BFMTV to the unexpected success of his latest comedy on Netflix. Released on the sly in France in September, "Pourris gâtés" is the most watched non-English language film in the world on the platform in recent days.

"For once, there's a good movie that works." Gérard Jugnot is on cloud nine. His latest comedy Pourris gâtés, only 440,000 admissions last September in France, has been enjoying a second life since Friday thanks to Netflix, which broadcasts the film internationally.

Sold to the streaming platform, Rotten Spoiled became the most watched non-English language film on Netflix in the space of a weekend. With 17.8 million hours viewed, or more than 10 million complete viewings, the comedy was watched twice as much as the second film in the ranking, the Spanish thriller Outlaws.

In this remake of a hit Mexican film, Nosotros los Nobles (2013), a businessman decides to make his three lazy and capricious children believe that they are ruined, to teach them about life and force them to work. for the first time in their life.

"That means it's a good movie"

Accustomed to success with Les Bronzés or Les Choristes, Gérard Jugnot says he is very surprised by this worldwide impact for Pourris gâtés. "This international penetration is very new. I had that with Les Choristes. But there the film was released four days ago! I don't know why there is this excitement. We knew that the film was pleasant and touched people, but from there we received emails from Ecuador and Brazil... That means it's a good film."

And Gérard Jugnot to add: "We have become used to seeing films differently, and to discovering them differently. On Netflix, I watch Spanish and Mexican films... stuff that I would never have watched before. That falls on us, so much the better. It's not just Omar Sy!" According to him, it is the film's message that has touched Netflix users: "People are touched by the film. It is very funny, quite touching, with a quite simple message."
