Lenovo Legion 5i and Legion 7i: Lenovo updates its gaming PCs with Intel Core Gen11 Tiger Lake

While Intel presented its latest powerful 11th generation Intel Core H processors (Tiger Lake) and NVIDIA its mid-range Ampere graphics cards, it's Lenovo's turn to unveil its equipped gaming laptops, the Lenovo Legion 5i in 15 and 17 inches, Legion 5i Pro 16 inches and Legion 7i 16 inches. On the program, chassis at the service of power and the arrival of artificial intelligence (Lenovo Legion AI Engine), a utility that optimizes game settings by distributing power between the CPU and the GPU.

Lenovo Legion 5i

The Lenovo Legion 5i is the entry-level model of the gamer series, available in 15 inches and 17 inches. It is installed in a case based on metal and plastic with a sober look in "Phantom Blue" (very dark blue) or "Stingray White" (white) designs, this white color being only available on the 15-inch version. The dimensions of the 15 inch are 363 x 259.6 x 26.1 mm for 2.4 kg against 398.6 x 290 x 26.2 for 2.98 kg for the 17 inch.

Inside, the two laptops host Intel Core i5-11400H (6 cores) and Intel Core i7-11800H (8 cores) processors assisted by 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM memory up to 32 GB and storage. M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD up to 2TB (15") and 1TB (17").

The graphics part has several options including the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4 GB GDDR6 (95W), the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti 4 GB GDDR6 (95W), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6 (130W) and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 (130W).

This catalog is supplemented by four screen options on the 15 inch:

  • 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS (144 Hz / 72% NTSC / 300 nits / Dolby Vision)
  • 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS (60Hz / 72% NTSC / 300nits)

    On the connector side, the two models see the Thunderbolt 4 arrive via two USB 4 Type-C ports alongside a USB 3.2 Type-C (Gen1) port, three USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, an HDMI 2.1 output and an Ethernet RJ45 port . The interfaces are distributed on the sides and the back of the PC and also include a button to hide the webcam (e-shutter), the power socket and an audio jack port. Also count on Wifi AX and Bluetooth 5.1. No biometric login option (Windows Hello) though. Shame.

    The True Strike keyboard is backlit and has a numeric keypad. The backlighting is limited to white on the 17 inch while it is available in white, blue or multicolored on the 15 inch.

    Last point concerning autonomy, Lenovo only communicates on a 60Whr battery on the 15 inch without specifying the nature or the capacity of the one integrated in the 17 inch.

    The Lenovo Legion 5i in 15 inches and 17 inches will be offered from 1299 euros and available in June 2021.

    Lenovo Legion 5i Pro

    With the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro, we go up a level. Already, with its screen that stretches in a 16-inch diagonal with WQXGA definition (2560 x 1600 px) IPS 16:10 (165 Hz / 3 ms / 100% sRGB / 500 nits / HDR 400 / Low Blue Light - TUV Certificate).

    The all-metal case is significantly compacted compared to the Legion 5i with 356 x 264.2 x 26.85 mm for 2.45 kg with the same keyboard and color options as the Legion 5i. We notice all the same that the design changes with a slightly more marked bias (central Y logo). Here are the two things that mainly set the Legion 5i Pro apart from the standard 15-inch Legion 5i.

    The options of processors, graphics card, RAM and storage but also the connectors and the battery are identical.

    The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro will be offered from 1499 euros and available in June 2021.

    Lenovo Legion 7i

    We arrive at the high end with the Lenovo Legion 7i, equipped with a beautiful 16-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS 16:10 borderless screen (165 Hz / 3 ms / 100% sRGB / 500 nits / HDR 400 / Dolby Vision / NVIDIA G-SYNC). Available in a sober Storm Gray color on a metal case, it seeks elegance under performance to appeal to both gamers and more versatile (creative) audiences. Its dimensions 360 x 260 x 23.5 mm for 2.5 kg are well optimized to allocate a little ease in mobility.

    In terms of performance, we find the Core i7-11800H (8 cores) and Core i9-11980HK (8 cores) as well as three NVIDIA graphics card options, the GeForce RTX 3060 6 GB GDDR6 (130W), GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GDDR6 ( 140W) and GeForce RTX 3080 16GB GDDR6 (165W). Alongside them, up to 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM and 2TB of M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD storage with Intel Optane H10 support.

    The connectivity is enriched with 5 USB ports in all, including two USB 4 Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB 3.2 Type-C port and three USB 3.2 Type-A Gen1 ports. Added to this is an HDMI 2.1 output, a Gigabit Ethernet port, the power outlet and the jack. Wifi Killer AX1650 (2x2) and Bluetooth 5.1 are present as well as a Corsair iCUE RGB keyboard with numeric keypad.

    The Lenovo Legion 7i with Core i9 will be offered from 3599 euros and available in June 2021.
