Netflix – why are these movies worth watching?

Donnie Brasco

Even if you don't like gangster cinema and the plots bathed in cigar smoke put you off, this film is worth seeing. Donnie Brasco. It's a story inspired by facts! We are dealing with a very subtle scenario, but one that manages to hit you in the occiput with its directness. The film follows an FBI agent who infiltrates a criminal organization from the inside – lots of nuance, great acting, and moral dilemmas.

Good time

The Safdie brothers have a particular style of storytelling and, even from a simple scenario, they can achieve incredible things, keeping the audience in suspense until the last minute. This is largely due to the formal procedures, which seem chaotic, but… I tell you, it is controlled chaos.

Lighthouse

Netflix – les meilleurs FILMS. Qu’est-ce qui vaut la peine d’être regardé ? [aktualizacja: styczeń 2022]

It may not have such a strong impact at home, but Robert Eggers' film is a wild ride where all shots are allowed, tackling a myriad of themes and featuring exceptionally good acting. The sound of the lighthouse is remembered for a long time, and the thoughts Eggers gives us stay with us even longer.

Uncut diamonds

If this is someone's first time discovering the Safdie brothers, it might be best to start with Good Times. Here, the directors have perfectly mastered how to build up the tension, which can be tiring in a very positive way. It is a projection that allows you to “feel” cinema on a physical level. You'll want to take a break from that constant throat tightening. Adam Sandler should have received an Oscar for his role. It is very unfortunate that this did not happen.

The Hateful Eight

Throw a lot of interesting characters into a small space and have them speak in words written by Quentin Tarantino – do you know a better game? Watch out, it's bloody! For this we have active capital and a dense atmosphere that can be cut with a knife.

Eyes wide closed

It's stodgy cinema, but if you have strong guts, you should check out Kubrick's latest film. Netflix used to offer more titles from the filmography of one of history's greatest directors, and now there's at least this one to choose from. Worth checking out.

Prestige

Illusions, magic tricks, great actors and Christopher Nolan in top form. An ambiguous and phenomenal story. It all leads to an awe-inspiring trick, one designed to knock the viewer into their seat. You have to watch it.

Taxi Driver

This exceptional work by Martin Scorsese paints a complex psychological portrait of a broken man, living in a society plagued by multiple problems, unhealthy behaviors and aspirations. Tracing the journey of the main character is extremely intriguing.

This is not a country for old people

Considered by many to be one of the best films of the Coen brothers. It impresses with its planned plot. The dialogues deserve big applause. It is worth watching, if only for the role of Javier Bardem, because it will stay in your memory for a long time.

Ad Astra: To the Stars

James Gray's masterpiece is pathetic at times and heavily focused on Brad Pitt's statuary beauty, but it tears with every passing minute and builds to the point where it's hard to tear itself off the screen . Space is used so beautifully here that it stands out from other sci-fi productions.

Last Action Hero

Schwarzenegger playing himself and a film that proves the magic of cinema – defying convention, very enjoyable to watch and entertaining with great respect for action cinema.

Ex Machina

From Pollock to artificial intelligence, Alex Garland signs a humanist treatise here and approaches the viewer with great respect. The director shows man as a lost species, consumed by the need to cut the branch on which he is sitting.

madmax

One of the best representatives of ozploitation – an uninhibited cinema from Australia, the primary purpose of which was to serve up senseless spectacles to the public. The first Mad Max isn't quite as twisted as later installments, but the origins of this cult story are worth seeing.

Psychokinesis

A suggestion for movie lovers in South Korea and elsewhere. You could say that this movie is a combination of Les Miserables and Marvel movies, filtered through the vision of a Korean filmmaker. The story is heavily pretensed at times, but it's an interesting perspective on people with powers straight out of Asia.

Corpus Christi

An excellent film by Jan Komasa which does not attack the Church and believers. It is not a story with an ideological dimension, but rather a spiritual one. It hits the mark, attacking ossified patterns and perceptions of faith. A film that everyone should see.
