Rumors are getting clearer about the new, higher-end Nintendo Switch model expected for this year. According to Bloomberg, the console will have a 7" 720p OLED screen provided by Samsung. In comparison, the standard Switch and Switch Lite have 6.2" and 5.5" 720p LCD screens. change, but the OLED panel should offer much better contrast and better readability.

Connected to a television, the Switch “Pro”, as it is nicknamed while waiting to know its official name, would be able to run games in 4K on the big screen, against 1080p at best for current models. We can therefore hope for a more powerful processor, even if Bloomberg does not mention it explicitly, unless Nintendo chooses a more original option, such as a TV dock equipped with a GPU.

Production would begin this summer, with the goal of the console being available by the end of the year holidays at the latest. Several points remain mysterious, such as the price and possible compatibility with current accessories.

A TV dock with GPU that would be backwards compatible with the first versions of the console, that could be nice!

@prowls

I thought the same, but it would be a little too good.. "you have to buy everything back" haha, I can't imagine Nintendo giving this kind of gift 🤷‍♂️

@prowls

Unfortunately, it would above all be a big headache to develop on it (and one more configuration to manage). an external SoC in the dock.

I think the definition is in 720p... 🤔

FTBZ |

I had the same thought, I think they are talking about the max output definition on an external screen and not the actual definition of the game.

@FTBZ

But I'm not sure that the switch actually comes out of 1080! Am I wrong? 🤔🙁

https://www.nintendo.com/fr_CA/switch/tech-specs/Yes, in hdmi mode, on the tv, in 1080... indeed In time for me

The OLED screen surprises me a little because it represents a certain additional cost when it is not what is most critical in this console. On the other hand, better graphics, in particular thanks to NVidia's DLSS (a kind of very efficient artificial intelligence scaling) it becomes quite urgent (here I'm playing Bravely Default 2, I have the impression that I could count the pixels so the resolution is low…). And by saving on the resolution, we can hope for less drops in fluidity (which have been there since Breath of the Wild…). I really hope that we will have a significant improvement on this side. The rest, for me, is less important (even if it would still require Bluetooth for audio and set the "joycon drift" once and for all).

@Yohmi

Painful drifting. I have two pro and I will return the one purchased in December. Avril's has already made two trips. However, I'm not a hardcore 24/7 gamer. They don't like fast movements like in Mario. With Zelda or Kart it's ok.

@Yohmi

Completely agree 👍🏻

Frankly, I don't really see the point of 4K. I don't know how it's done but 1080P looks very nice even up close on my 60 inch 4K TV, maybe the TV is applying some processing?

darlito |

@armandgz123

It has to do with the size of the TV. If you take a small TV, yes that's for sure it's not much use

armandgz123 |

@Darlito

my tv is 60 inch

Anwan |

All 4K TVs do upscaling, unless explicitly configured otherwise in the settings.

Roman |

If the addition of 4k leads to the same stability as 1080p I say yes, imagine a Mario kart in native 4k :o

armandgz123 |

@E3ast

We will finally be able to play 4 correctly! More seriously, I already play in 4K on Mario Kart Wii (emulator of course), and there is no picture, it's much more pleasant when there are 4

milk |

On my LG 4K it's very good even if the power means that it's not a PS12 or Xbox 2058. The small screen never serves me. So the idea of the dock for more power can possibly be good for more modern games.

jean_claude_duss |

@lactel

This is where they are strong! I never use the dock and yet we bought the same console!!

milk |

@jean_claude_duss

For once we can not blame having all the options in one box without having to buy a whole bunch of stuff to connect or play TV days.

sachouba |

It would really not be bad, an OLED screen! As long as they are there, you might as well take advantage of it to reduce the borders around the screen without changing the size of the console.

damien.thg |

If we could already have stable 1080p, that would be a plus.

Clearly, the games are often super less fluid in dock mode, connected to the TV, than in mobile mode on the 720p screen.

Boboss29 |

The switch on my 49-inch 4K is already very nice on most games. I don't know what it will bring to a 4k mario...

xenoth |

Already making the console capable of running Pokémon Shield & Sword at 30 constant FPS while seeing more than 10 meters away would be good, before talking about 4K and OLED (especially with the next one coming full open world)

good pear |

4K would be upscale. The console will probably be released at the same time as Zelda....

grahamcoxon |

I love Nintendo and have owned all of their consoles. But we especially expect games frankly they almost only come out remakes lately it's sad.

IsaPain |

@Grahamcoxon

It is sure that for any Nintendo fanboy having bought his wii U day One (hello here I am), this switch is a good disappointment.

There remains the portable side of the object which is nice and a better mobile screen than the tablet.😬

Insomnia |

Same rumor as the times present knowing that if I'm not mistaken the CEO of Nintendo said that it was not yet for today that the switch was enough.

daxr1der |

I sell 2 Nintendo Switch V1 Will understand who can. A new one never unpacked and another a little used, the color is gray for both

ijimax |

@daxr1der

Perfectly understood :)
