Five years after unveiling its new fighter plane (or a model), will Iran finally present a plane ready to return to service on Wednesday? “We will present an aircraft on National Defense Industry Day and people will see it flying (...)”, announced the Minister of Defense on Saturday. According to General Amir Hatami, a flight demonstration of the new fighter will take place during the day, which is scheduled for August 22. Iran developed this program to respond to "threats" from Israel and the United States. So far the Iranian air force has only a few dozen Russian or American-made fighters, acquired before the Islamic revolution of 1979.

An aircraft already presented in 2013

In 2013, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had already unveiled a new combat aircraft presented as "one of the most advanced in the world", on the occasion of the ceremonies marking the 34th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of 1979. This aircraft with futuristic forms, baptized "Qaher-313" ("Conqueror 313"), was "designed and produced by Iranian engineers" and "is among the combat aircraft the most advanced in the world", said Mahmoud Ahmadinejad quoted by the Iranian media during this inauguration. It was presented as being of 5th generation, that is to say having a weak radar signature. But this device was then, it seems, only a model.

In March 2017, Iranian Defense Minister General Hossein Dehqan briefly mentioned the Qaher 313, indicating, without giving further details, that the device was ready for testing. A month later, the Iranian authorities released images of a new version of this plane, on the occasion of the military ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani. The latter had affirmed that "the reinforcement of the capacity of the Iranian armed forces is aimed at defending the country".

New American-Iranian conflict

Donald Trump paved the way for the reinstatement of sanctions by denouncing in May the 2015 international agreement on the framework of the Iranian nuclear program, which the United States had yet signed. The American president criticizes this agreement for not addressing the interference of the Islamic Republic in the conflicts of the Middle East, nor its ballistic program. This program is indeed a thorny issue with the major powers, particularly the United States, but Tehran considers it crucial for its defensive capabilities in an unstable region.

Finally, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, commander of the Iranian navy quoted by the Tasnim agency, meanwhile announced that the coastal and maritime tests of the Kamand short-range defense system had been completed and that a ship would soon be equipped with it. Generally speaking, General Hatami asserted that the Iranian defense program was motivated by the memory of the missile attacks which his country had been the target of during the war against Iraq (1980-1988), as well as by the threats of Israel and the United States, which repeat that "all options are on the table" when it comes to dealing with Iran.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that the Iranian government is reassuring its population in the face of the American threat? Europeans too need to be reassured by the media, which constantly stirs up the spirit of war. "Si vis pacem, para bellum. If you want peace prepare for war". This ancient adage is much safer and more effective than all international institutions such as the WTO or the UN and reinforces their pacifying role.

The airplane lover wrote on 08/21/2018 at 14:51 ReportFinally, it was just a modernized F-5 that was presented :) Well, it's a reliable and economical plane. For bombed Kurds, Taliban, or civilian boats, it will do.

With the development of high-performance anti-aircraft missiles, planes, despite their pseudo stealth, are increasingly threatened. The real question is the performance of radar electronics, radars on missiles or on the ground. At present only the Russians were able to see American stealth planes. We must not forget that in 1993 during the Kosovo war, an American stealth F117 was shot down by a old Russian missile, the Americans seemed to ignore or pretended to ignore that ultra long waves could see this kind of plane! I doubt that the Iranians have this level of technology unless the Russians equip them with it. forget that during the first Gulf War the Americans were afraid of Russian missiles, when the missiles that France had sold to the Iraqis, France had given the codes but the Russian missiles? It was the period of the deliquescence of the USSR and the loans granted by the West were made in exchange for these codes ..........

If not, they also like to use these armadas among themselves. In any case, don't worry about the quality of the Iranian pilots. In this 8-year war, imposed by the Arabs and supported by the West, the Iranian pilots were among the best.

And there has been no conflict with 2 air forces worthy of the name for 30 years. therefore impossible to find more recent references @asaThe Arab countries buy quite a few Russians (like Syria or Saddam's Iraq) or else do not pay because they have more than one penny (eg the bursts "sold" to Egypt). As for the Israelis, you underestimate them. They are not simple users of American materials that they are incapable of using like the Saudis. Look in the field of drones, for example they are more advanced than us.
