The fine for toll fraud increases to a minimum of 375 euros

Legislation toughens with fivefold fines as barrier-free tolls begin to grow

375 €fine, 90 €, 7,500 €for repeat offenders...

Experiments with barrier-free tolls have begun in France in order to streamline exit traffic and save time on the roads. But here's the thing: there are still frauds on the highways. So before embarking on the generalisation of these "free flow" tolls, the public authorities have just stepped up the measures to combat fraud and not just a little.

The trick is very simple: at the time of crossing the exit gate, you just have to stick to the vehicle in front of either or two motorcycles in front to cross the toll without pulling out your wallet. In the event of an infringement, up to now there was a risk of a fine of EUR 75.

L'amende pour la fraude au péage passe à 375 euros minimum

This amount of fine is now a thing of the past, since a decree published on Wednesday in the Official Journal has just raised the ticket for this type of offence from the 2nd category to the 4th category, in other words a ticket of 375 euros! to this amount we will of course have to add the cost of the toll which should have been paid. Motorway companies will also benefit from this, as the "application fees" are also increased from €20 to €90. In other words, defrauding the toll will cost at least 465 euros in addition to the cost of the journey.

This applies to gate tolls. For those who do not have it, the rule is a little less harsh. In the event of non-payment, the driver will have 15 days to pay the toll with a 10 euro application fee, a sum that will then rise to 90 euros and then increase to 375 €after 45 days.

The new regulation also provides for harsher punishment for repeat offenders, since in the event of failure to pay five tickets during a 12-month period, the driver will be fined 7,500 euros. And there will be no question of trying to sell his vehicle, since in such a case the sale of the vehicle will be blocked until the sums due are paid.

Finally, foreign drivers will not be spared, as in the case of infringements detected by automatic radars, the Member States will exchange information on toll fraudsters in October.
