The Italian group Leonardo "invited" by Germany to join the SCAF program

An Italian group new partner in the future combat aircraft project with France, Germany and Spain? This new plan seems to be taking shape clearly. Leonardo, a major player in the aeronautics and defense industry, has announced a 25.1% stake of "around 606 million euros" in the German group Hensoldt, one of the manufacturers involved. in the Scaf program, as reported by the Air & Cosmos.

Leonardo and Hensolt, a former subsidiary of Airbus specialized in radars and surveillance systems, are already working together on the Eurofighter. The Italian group is also involved in the British FCAS program (Future combat air system) with the Tempest, the plane intended to replace the Typhoon. Thus, Leonardo, in which the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance is a 30.2% shareholder, will be involved in the two European aircraft of the future.

The Scaf program, which includes a fighter plane, the NGF (New Generation Fighter) and drones all piloted by a command system connected with land and naval forces, is at the heart of a showdown between France and Germany via the two aeronautical groups, Dassault, prime contractor for the project, and Airbus Defense, which calls for greater sharing of the technologies developed by Dassault.
